Rebels roar back to beat Comets

REINBECK – BCLUW landed a stunning first-set victory over 1A’s third-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck, but the Rebels fired back to win convincingly in the next three sets of a four-set Rebel victory at Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School last Tuesday.

G-R won 17-25, 25-6, 25-13, 25-15, the Rebels are now 1-1 in the NICL West and 7-3 overall - the Rebels have since dropped to eighth in Class 1A. BCLUW fell to 6-5 overall and is also 1-1 in the West.

ACKLEY – AGWSR’s Brynn Smith slammed 25 kills in the Cougar volleyball team’s four-set victory over East Marshall at AGWSR High School last Tuesday.

The Cougars won 25-15, 22-25, 25-13, 25-15, improving to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the NICL West round robin.

Kolthoff 3rd at Union Invite

LA PORTE CITY – Carter Kolthoff finished third to lead South Hardin boys cross country at the Union Invite at La Porte City Golf Course on Thursday.

The Tigers were fourth out of five scoring teams with 75 points. Vinton-Shellsburg won the team title with 32 points.

Kolthoff completed the course in 18:59. Nashua-Plainfield’s Drew Wilken was the winner in 17:54, followed by Vinton-Shellsburg’s Elijah Blix in 18:28.

Cadets, Comets run at M’town

MARSHALLTOWN – Iowa Falls-Alden/AGWSR and BCLUW cross country were among the competitors at Thursday’s Bobcat Invite held on the course behind Marshalltown Community College.

The Cadet girls were 16th with a 447 team score. BCLUW did not field a full team in the varsity race.

AGWSR’s Elizabeth Kielty was 124th in 24:48 to contribute to the Cadets team score. Teah Miller and Abby Harding were 33rd and 39th, respectively, to lead IF-A/AGWSR.

Emma Hoover finished 121st in 23:45 to lead the Comets; Fiona Speicher was 126th in 25:03.

Tigers sweep home tourney

ELDORA – Jaidyn Teske zoomed past 1,500 digs for her high school career and South Hardin volleyball continued their undefeated season with six wins at their home tournament at South Hardin High School on Saturday.

The Tigers (15-0) defeated Coon Rapids-Bayard, Saydel, Edgewood-Colesburg, Greene County, Oelwein and Glad-brook-Reinbeck.

Teske scrounged up 76 digs in the six matches and now has 1,541 digs for her career.

Cougars slam Comets

ACKLEY – Cale Culver and Kaden Abbas led the AGWSR football team's rushing attack in a 42-14 win over BCLUW at AGWSR High School on Friday.

The Cougars (2-1) travel to Wapsie Valley in Week 4 this Friday; BCLUW (0-3) hosts North Butler for homecom-ing.

Cale Culver carried the ball 17 times for 126 yards and two touchdowns and Kaden Abbas added seven runs for 105 yards and a touchdown. The Cougars totaled 344 yards on the ground, with Ryley Bohner and Bradly Roder add-ing touchdowns.

Tigers run home meet

ELDORA – South Hardin cross country competed at its first of two home meets this season in the Pine Lake Run on Thursday, Sept. 2 at Pine Lake Golf Course.

The Tiger girls were 12th with a team score of 278. BCLUW finished one spot ahead with 245 points.

Jaiden Roy led South Hardin with a 41st-place finish in 25:14. Lydia Muller was 49th, Diep Nguyen placed 55th, Elizabeth Stanish finished 66th, and Elizabeth Daleske was the final scoring Tiger in 67th.

BCLUW was led by Kalia Stover and Abby Kemp, running 27th in 24:11 and 28th in 24:13, respectively.

South Hardin football limits Hawks in rivalry win

ELDORA – There’s no sugarcoating how South Hardin football fared against South Hamilton last year.

“They flat out beat us twice last year,” Tigers head coach Nick Eller said. “There’s no hiding from it.”
After being on the wrong end of last year’s matchups, it was a taste of revenge for the Tigers in their 20-6 win in Eldora last Friday, Sept. 3.
 
South Hardin (1-1) outgained the Hawks 267-110 in total offensive yards.
 

South Hardin takes down G-R in ranked volleyball battle

REINBECK – South Hardin’s diverse attack rode a wave of momentum to a four-set victory over Gladbrook-Reinbeck at Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School on Friday.

The Tigers, ranked sixth in 2A, defeated the third-ranked (1A) Rebels, 18-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-21.

Ellie Anderson led South Hardin with 12 kills and Rylee Nelson and Ava Paige contributed nine kills each.

“We’ve been extremely successful in our last two games because we’ve spread the ball around,” said South Hardin co-head coach John Teske.

Tigers roll past Hawks

ELDORA – South Hardin freshman Ava Salvo made a big splash with seven of the Tiger volleyball team’s 17 aces in a straight-set sweep of South Hamilton on Tuesday, South Hardin’s home opener.

The 2A No. 6 Tigers won 25-21, 25-11, 25-10 to improve to 7-0 this season.

Salvo was 19-of-20 from the service line. Ellie Anderson contributed six aces on 13-of-14 serving and Macy Engelson chipped in four aces.
