Tiger girls take down Trojans

TAMA – South Hardin girls tennis got back in the win column with a 6-3 victory at South Tama on Thursday, April 21.

The Tigers claimed four of six singles matches from the Trojans and won two of three doubles matches to boot.

Jaidyn Teske won her No. 1 singles match 8-2 to remain undefeated on the year. She teamed up with Madisun Salazar for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles.

Topp’s tiebreaker takes Tigers girls past Cougars

ACKLEY – Emma Topp’s round ended up pushing South Hardin girls golf past AGWSR at Ackley Country Club on Tuesday, April 19.

Topp, the No. 5 golfer for the Tigers on Tuesday, shot a 66, but when both teams’ top four golfers tied with matching 225 team scores, Topp’s score was used to break the tie, three strokes better than AGWSR’s No. 5 score.

AGWSR’s Brianna Kruger led the individuals with a 48 for medalist, and Avery Lafrenz and Bella Keaveny shared runner-up medalist honors with a 52.

Tiger boys 2nd in Eldora

ELDORA – South Hardin boys golf placed second in a four-team meet at Pine Lake Country Club in Eldora on Thursday, April 21.

Waterloo Columbus ran away with the team title with a 169, followed by the Tigers with a 203 and Colo-NESCO with a 231.

The Sailors dominated the individual race, too, with five in the top five spots, followed by John Lepley leading the Tigers with a 48.

Tyler Harrell and Kayne Harrell shot 51s and Dallas Jones closed out the Tiger top four with a 53. Mason Sheldahl added a 59 and Tucker DeMott had a 63.

BCLUW boys 2nd at Les Penick Relays

CONRAD – The BCLUW boys track and field team finished second at its home meet, the Les Penick Relays, at BCLUW High School on Thursday.

Aplington-Parkersburg won the team title with 142 points.

The 4x800 relay team of Lane Hartwig, Henry Kaisand, Nick Pieper and Connor Lynch won the event in 8:30.97. The Comets also had five runner-up finishes - Logan Aicher in the long jump, Tyler Bracy in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, Nick Pieper in the 800-meter run and the distance medley quartet of Liam Speicher, Aicher, Pieper and Cayden White.

AGWSR, BCLUW girls compete at Hudson

HUDSON – The AGWSR and BCLUW girls track and field teams participated in a massive 15-team meet at Hudson on Tuesday, April 12.

The Cougars placed eighth with 34.5 points, and BCLUW was 13th with 24 points.

AGWSR’s Karis Lippert won the 800-meter run in 2:36.00. Abby Veld added a second-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 38 feet even. Trinity Rotgers earned bronze in the 200 with a finish in 29.52 seconds.

BCLUW boys win in Iowa Valley

MARENGO – BCLUW boys track and field won the Class B team title at an Iowa Valley track meet last Tuesday, April 12.

The Comets ran away with it, scoring 156 points and placing well ahead of English Valleys in the runner-up spot with 95 points.

Tiger girls 4th at Story City

STORY CITY – South Hardin girls track and field placed fourth at a Roland-Story track meet on Saturday, April 9.

The Tigers scored 91 points. ADM won the team title with 112 points.

Macy Engelson won the 1,500 in 5:56.79, a 1-2 finish with Jaiden Roy who crossed the line in 5:58.86.

Liberty Tupper added the other gold medal for the Tiger girls in the 100 hurdles in a time of 19.47.

The South Hardin boys finished tied for sixth in a 13-team field, scoring 34 points. North Polk and Roland-Story tied for the team title with 113 points.

Tiger golf takes on Grundy

ELDORA – South Hardin golf kicked off the spring with a tough test against Grundy Center at Pine Lake on Monday, April 11.

The Grundy girls won 211-290, and the Grundy boys claimed a 158-211 victory.

Bella Keaveny led the way for the Tiger girls with a 59, Macy Roskens close behind shooting a 60. Ava Goodell added a 78 and Olyvia Smith went to the clubhouse with an 89.

Grundy Center’s Abbie Lindeman was the girls medalist with a 45.

Tiger girls prevail against Knights

South Hardin girls tennis beat out Union in a 5-4 squeaker at the Eldora tennis courts on Tuesday, April 12.

The match was tied at 3-3 after the singles matches, with Jaidyn Teske and Abby Teske leading throughout their matches for an 8-4 win at No. 1 singles and an 8-6 win at No. 2 singles, respectively. Peyton Benson added an 8-3 win at No. 4 singles.

Tiger boys 2nd in Baxter

BAXTER – South Hardin boys track and field finished as runner-up in the Baxter Invite last Monday.

The Tigers earned four first-place finishes. Nathan Coffman won the 100-meter dash in 11.87 and was part of two winning medleys in the 4x100 (46.64) and sprint medley (1:39.97) races. His 4x100 partners were Kaiden Lindsey, Chizkiyah Richmond and Jeremiyah Richmond; Nathan, Chizkiyah and Jeremiyah joined up with Eliyahu Richmond to win the sprint medley.

The 4x800 relay team of Jake Teske, Colton McDonald, Ethan Klendworth and Mason Sheldahl also won their event in 8:59.87.
