Tigers dispatch Comets in twinbill

CONRAD – South Hardin softball completed the NICL West schedule with a sweep of BCLUW in Conrad on Monday, June 27.

The Tigers won 7-2 in Game 1 and 4-1 in Game 2. Ellie Anderson was 4-for-4 with two RBI and Jaidyn Teske added two RBI for the Tigers in Game 1. Hailey Rosonke struck out nine with no walks and two unearned runs allowed on four hits.

Callie Swanson had two hits and an RBI for the Comets in Game 1. Cassie Nason added two hits, including a double, with an RBI.

Preston, Tigers sink Sailors

ELDORA – Sam Preston hit the game-winning single in a 4-3 win for South Hardin softball against Waterloo Columbus in Eldora on Wednesday, June 29.

Jaidyn Teske and Alyssa Kix hit back-to-back singles to start the seventh, and when first base came open, Hailey Rosonke was given it with an intentional walk to load the bases. Ellie Anderson hit a grounder back to the mound that forced Teske out at home for the first out. But Preston stepped up and delivered the game-winner to score Kix’s courtesy runner, Alyssa Stille.

Tiger boys win 3 of last 4 in West

South Hardin baseball swept East Marshall on June 24 and split with BCLUW on June 27 to wrap up the NICL West schedule on a high note.

The Tigers’ wins against East Marshall ended a nine-game losing streak, conquering the Mustangs 6-3 and 4-2. The Comets snatched a 6-2 win in Beaman on Monday but the Tigers bounced back to pound BCLUW, 16-5, in the nightcap.

Softball pairings released

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released the postseason brackets for the upcoming regional softball tournament.

South Hardin will host Aplington-Parkersburg on Friday, July 1 at 7 p.m. in an opening-round game in Class 2A Region 2. The winner will take on 2A No. 10 West Fork on Wednesday, July 6. Seventh-ranked Van Meter is the top seed in Region 2.

BCLUW completes season sweep of Spartans

Twice in two nights, BCLUW softball found late-inning heroics to complete a three-game sweep of Class 2A No. 14 Grundy Center in NICL West action last week.

The Comets prevailed in eight innings, 6-5, on June 16, beat the Spartans 12-2 in the first game of a doubleheader in Grundy on Friday and then walked off a 12-11 win in the night game.

Over in Grundy Center on Friday, the Comets got a big boost with six runs in the fifth inning to run away from the Spartans in the opener.

BCLUW boys get Dons to start postseason

BCLUW baseball will begin the postseason Saturday, July 2 against Don Bosco, according to postseason brackets released last week.

The Dons are the top seed in Class 1A District 7. The game will begin in Reinbeck after the conclusion of Colo-NESCO/Gladbrook-Reinbeck, which has a 5 p.m. first pitch.

The winners will meet Tuesday, July 5 in Traer. Don Bosco is currently rated fifth in Class 1A.

BCLUW lost to Gladbrook-Reinbeck 16-6 on June 23, 10-1 to Grundy Center on June 21 and 11-1 to East Marshall on June 20.

D-NH clubbers AGWSR boys

DIKE – AGWSR couldn’t get one past Dike-New Hartford starting pitcher Devon Kollasch and the Wolverine defense in a 10-0 defeat for the Cougars in NICL crossover action in Dike on Wednesday, June 22.

Kollasch walked four with eight strikeouts in the five-inning no-hitter. He added three RBI at the plate to help the Wolverines end it early.

“We hit the ball hard, just right at guys,” AGWSR head coach Dave Showalter said. “And we were in the fifth at 5-0, where if you take away a couple errors, maybe it’s 2- or 3-0. And then that last inning just got away from us there.”

AGWSR softball drops 3

Prior to Thursday’s game with South Hardin, AGWSR fell in three contests earlier in the week; swept by Grundy Center 11-1, 11-4 in NICL West action on June 20 and an 8-0 loss to Dike-New Hartford on Wednesday, June 22.

AGWSR looked to get off the 11-game winless skid at a Roland-Story tournament on June 24 and 25. The regular season wraps up with a doubleheader at East Marshall on June 27 and a road game at Sumner-Fredericksburg on Tuesday before closing out the regular season at home against Aplington-Parkersburg on Wednesday.

Tiger boys to open postseason with A-P

South Hardin baseball will play Aplington-Parkersburg in a Class 2A District 6 quarterfinal game in Grundy Center, per postseason brackets that were released on Wednesday, June 22.

The game will be played Saturday, July 2 following the conclusion of Grundy Center vs. South Hamilton, which has a 5 p.m. first pitch.

The winner of the South Hardin/A-P contest will play top seed and sixth-ranked Dike-New Hartford in Dike on Tuesday, July 5 at 5 p.m.

Tigers conquer Cougars in five

ELDORA – Hailey Rosonke was 3-for-4 with five runs batted in as South Hardin softball scored early and consistently in an 11-1 victory over AGWSR at South Hardin High School on Thursday, June 23.

Rosonke was also the winning pitcher, with one unearned run scoring on one hit with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Jaidyn Teske’s leadoff double and an Alyssa Kix walk set up Rosonke’s first multi-RBI hit of the day with a single to left. Two batters later, Samantha Preston had an RBI single toward an early 3-0 lead on the Cougars.
