Tournament trail ends for BCLUW

EARLHAM- The tournament trail came to a close for the BCLUW volleyball team here Tuesday, losing in straight sets to Tri-Center in the Class 2A, Region 4 final.

The seventh-ranked Trojans turned back the Comets by counts of 25-22, 25-14, 25-17 and earned a berth to the state tournament.

BCLUW was unable to finish in the first two games and dug a 2-0 game deficit. Tri-Center rallied from a 20-15 deficit in the first set, ending on a 10-2 run and then finished the second set scoring 12 of the final 13 points.

“It would have been nice to finish off that first game. We were right in the game and let it slip away,” said BCLUW coach Kristen Garber.

The Comets bolted to a 9-4 advantage early in the first game as Parker Scurr had five service points with an ace around two Madison Ubben kills, one for Easton Swanson and Lizzie Garber block.

The lead was stretched to 19-14 on Cate Nason’s tip and 20-15 on Ubben’s kill. The Trojans battled back with a 7-1 run to lead 22-21 and the game stood 22-all on Jade Hammers’ kill. Tri-Center then scored a pair of kills by Olivia Maasen around Brookyn Hundt’s kill.
