Storm girls get in final tuneup before Regionals

TRAER - Every coach hopes to see tremendous growth from the start of the season to the end. Mike White has witnessed that change with BCLUW-SH girls wrestling, who will go into Regionals on Friday with high hopes of qualifying multiple girls to state again this year.

“It’s not just the experienced girls making strides alone,” White said. “They work with their newer teammates to help them be successful. It’s the biggest area I’ve seen growth.”

Tigers can’t find a spark at Grundy Center

GRUNDY CENTER - South Hardin boys basketball couldn’t find the needed spark to keep pace offensively in a 59-46 loss to 2A sixth-ranked Grundy Center on Tuesday last week, the Spartans sweeping the regular season series.

The Tigers hit the first two shots of the evening and were able to keep pace with the Spartans early before a technical foul was called on South Hardin, allowing the Spartans to shoot four free throws. Grundy Center had the momentum in the second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 12-7 to go into halftime with a 26-16 lead.

Tigers force overtime, fall to Spartans in heartbreaker

GRUNDY CENTER - South Hardin girls basketball nearly sent the NICL West spinning with a spirited effort against leading Grundy Center, falling to the Spartans in overtime 47-46 on Tuesday.

Storm splits duals at Oelwein

OELWEIN - BCLUW-SH’s fuller lineup got them past Oelwein 46-16, but not enough to get past APGC 60-21 in NICL conference duals on Thursday.

Oelwein had five wrestlers available for the first dual of the evening, forfeiting six weights to the Storm before having the first match at 150 pounds. Sophomore Beau Towne picked up a tech fall in the third period at 150 pounds. Junior Zaden Eggers followed with a tech fall of his own at 165 pounds before the Huskies bit back at 175 and 285 pounds.

Tigers suffer losses to Cadets, Mustangs

LE GRAND - South Hardin boys basketball played in two tightly contested games last week, falling to county rival Iowa Falls-Alden 60-57 on Monday and at NICL West nemesis East Marshall 66-57 on Friday.

Tigers race past Mustangs

LE GRAND - South Hardin girls basketball has caught fire offensively in recent games.

The Tiger offense averaged 46.1 points per game in its first nine games and has kicked it up a gear with 63.7 points per game the last three, including a 69-12 win at East Marshall on Friday.

South Hardin shot 48.1 percent from the field in Le Grand, including seven of 13 from three as the Tigers hung two 20-points halves on the Mustangs. 19 of 25 made field goals were assisted on and the Tigers hit 12 of 16 at the free throw line.

Drury takes in Blue-Grey All American Bowl

ARLINGTON, TX - South Hardin senior Jaxson Drury was honestly unaware of what exactly the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl was when first approached to play.

Scouts had seen Drury’s film on social media and liked his versatility, inviting him to make the trip down to Texas to compete alongside and against football athletes from across the United States.

HUDSON - South Hardin boys basketball was away from Eldora last week for two games, falling to Southeast Valley 56-48 on Tuesday and getting back on track with an 80-50 win at Hudson on Friday.

Tigers break five-game skid with win over Jaguars

GOWRIE - A career shooting night from senior Alyssa Kix pushed South Hardin girls basketball over Southeast Valley 68-42 on the road Tuesday, ending a five-game losing streak with their second best offense outing of the season.

Kix nailed five of South Hardin’s seven three point makes in the road rout, including three in the first half. Beyond Kix, the Tigers got balanced scoring across the board to lead by as much as 27 after three quarters.
