Shopko closing in Eldora

ELDORA – Shopko’s corporate offices confirmed that starting December 7 they will begin liquidation of the store here in Eldora and stores in Webster City and Cherokee. They hope to have each closed by February.

Usually ten to 25 staff members work in stores found in communities this size, officials in Green Bay, Wisconsin said.

The word came as a surprise to the Eldora community.

Corporate spokesperson Michelle Hanson, with Shopko’s Green Bay offices, confirmed the news. Responding to rumors, she said, “Unfortunately this time the rumors are true.”

Hansen said the move was being made after a study of the store’ s long-term profitability and the economic outlook in the service areas.

“Unfortunately this is the result.”
