Lila Elizabeth Cox

Lila Elizabeth Cox, 92, passed away on June 26, 2021, at Creekside Senior Living in Grundy Center, Iowa. During her last weekend on this earth, she loved and relished being surrounded by many of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was the third of five daughters born to Lois (Wooderson) and Lloyd Hamilton in Trenton, Mo., on Feb. 22, 1929. Her survivors are her children Dianna Ragan (Jim) of Louisville, Ky., Rick Rolph (Pam) of Castle Rock, Colo., Patricia Rolph of Eldora, Iowa, Randall Rolph (Lisa) of Iowa City, Iowa, Gary Rolph (Rhonda Ketels) of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, and Cathy Menard (Bob Merritt) of Urbandale, Iowa. Her remaining sister Helen Boomgarden resides in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. She was proud of and much loved by her children, 12 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mom raised her children and lived in Eldora many years. In 1970 she owned and operated the first Hallmark store in Eldora located on Edgington Avenue. She eventually sold the store after she moved to Des Moines where she later became the manager and buyer for a new Hallmark store at Clocktower Square in West Des Moines. She was always proud of her many years of affiliation with the Hallmark Company.

Mom’s choice was to be cremated with no funeral service. Her loving family will celebrate her life with sprinkling of ashes in Iowa, Kentucky, Colorado, California and Hawaii, parts of the country she loved. The family requests no flowers but donations in her memory can be made to Cedar Valley Hospice, P.O. Box 2880, Waterloo, Iowa 50704-2880. Her family thanks the loving care staff and volunteers of Hospice and Creekside.
