Joyce Marjorie McCormick

Joyce Marjorie McCormick, 100, formerly of Liscomb, Eldora, and Marshalltown, died November 24, 2020, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born July 28, 1920, on the family farm in Liscomb, she was the daughter of Milon and Lola Gould Thatcher. In March 1942, she married Warren McCormick.

Joyce was a 1938 graduate of Liscomb High School who later worked in a Waterloo dental clinic, for Modern Dairy in Marshalltown, and at the Eldora hospital.

She enjoyed reading, crafts, playing cards, sewing, music, and playing slot machines. She disliked cooking.

Survivors include her sons Wayne (Cheryl) of Grand Junction, CO, and Evan (Mary) of Burlington, daughter Marjorie Rae (Kevin) Hoy of Ingleside, TX, grandsons Patrick Hoy of Austin, TX and Luke Hoy of San Antonio, TX, sister Pat McAlister of Marshalltown, and sister-in-law Sara Thatcher of Conrad.

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband Warren in 1995, her parents, sisters Arlene Meyer and Garnet Rogers, brother Milon ‘Bud’ Thatcher, in-laws Marcus Meyer, Calvin Rogers, Howard McAlister, Lowell and Helen McCormick, and nephews Marlyn McCormick and Tom Thatcher.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Prugh Crematory.
