Joyce "Joy" Young

Joyce Young, 78, of Eldora, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021, at her home. Memorial services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2021, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora. She will be laid to rest at the Rough Woods Cemetery at a later time. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, April 9 at the church. Woodley Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Iowa Falls is caring for Joyce and her family.

Joyce Ann (Turner) “Joy” Young was born on Sept. 6, 1942, in rural Butler County, Iowa, to James Leslie and Frances Mabel (Medders) Turner. Joyce married her high school sweetheart, David Young on June 7, 1963. They are the parents of two boys, Brian David Young and Christopher John Young.

Joyce graduated from Plainfield High School and later received a degree in photography from Hawkeye Community College. She worked for McKenna Professional Imaging studio in Waterloo, Iowa as a film developer. As a developer, she earned many awards in a national contest for her images. After her retirement, she and Dave moved to Eldora, Iowa, to be closer to family. While living in Eldora, Joyce attended the First Congregational United Church of Christ. She assisted her daughter in-law Brenda in the daycare business. Joyce loved to tell stories of the time she spent with the kids there, especially the babies. She enjoyed rendezvousing, fishing, vacationing with family in Minnesota, the monthly Turner gatherings and hearing about Brian and Brenda’s adventures on the road.

Joyce is survived by her husband, David Young of Eldora, Iowa; sons, Brian (Brenda) Young of Eldora, Iowa, and Chris Young of Des Moines, Iowa. She was the proud grandma of Brittany (Jason) Hampton of Eldora, Iowa, Brooke (Brent) Ibeling of Ackley, Iowa, Bradley (Becky) Young of Eldora, Iowa, Brady (Kelli) Young of Eldora, Iowa, and Gaje (Ashley) Young of Viroqua, Wis. She had 10 great-grandchildren: Sloane Link and Ozias Hampton, Madison and Natalie Ibeling, Regan and Otis Young, Sadie and Warren Young, and Dexton and Westley Young. Joyce is also survived by her brother, Les Turner of St. Ansgar, Iowa; sisters, Florence Fisher of Marshalltown, Iowa and Edee (Jim) Boelman of West Union, Iowa; sisters in-law, Margaret Turner of Selah, Washington and Glenna Mennenga of Plainfield, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Walter Turner; brothers-in-law, Richard Fisher and Paul Mennenga and sister-in-law, Kathryn Turner.
