Harold Bahr

Harold Edward Bahr, Jr, 91, a longtime resident of the Iowa Falls area died Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at his home near Buckeye. Funeral services were set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls with burial in Union Cemetery with visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. 

Harold was born at home on the family farm near Buckeye, Feb. 19, 1933, to Harold Bahr, Sr. and Elsie (Folks) Bahr. He attended school in Buckeye through 8th grade before transferring to Iowa Falls for High School, graduating in 1951. Following graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army serving from 1953-1955. Following the service, he worked for Hoffman Seed Farms Inc of Iowa Falls from 1960-2001. He was united in marriage Sept. 16, 1958 to Martha Marie Bahr (Rasmussen), at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He volunteered and was a member of multiple organizations including Ellis Township Trustee, a former member of the Ellis United Methodist Church and a member of the Owasa United Methodist Church.

Harold was an avid outdoorsman. Enjoying hunting and fishing with his closest family and friends. He played fastpitch softball with his brothers and friends on the Buckeye team. He was commonly seen at local sporting and community events. As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, Harold was loved by many. His contagious laugh, warm smile, and natural humility brought comfort and peace to all who spent time with him.

Harold is survived by his brothers and sisters: James (Linda) Bahr, of Iowa Falls; Dorothy (Bill) Eldred, of Chugiak, Alaska; Phyllis (Vic) Ward, of Guthrie, Oklahoma; Donald Bahr, of Alden; Glen (Kay) Bahr, of Iowa Falls; Connie (Tom) Metzgar, of Trenton, Missouri, and Paul Bahr, of Iowa Falls; sisters-in-law: Alice Bahr, of Iowa Falls, and Marlys Bahr, of Iowa Falls, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents: Harold Bahr, Sr. and Elsie Bahr; his wife of 59 years, Martha Marie Bahr; brothers: Eugene Bahr, Dale Bahr and Robert Bahr; his wife Janice Bahr; sister Evelyn Ford and her husband Jerry; sister Lavonne Richardson and her husband Gene Richardson and sister-in-law Colleen Bahr.
