Donald ‘Don’ Lee Fiscus
Donald ‘Don’ Lee Fiscus, 89, passed away Nov. 23, 2022 in his home, after a brief battle with cancer. Born Aug. 30, 1933 in Parker, S.D., he was the son of Leonard “Cecil” and Anna (Beier) Fiscus. In the late thirties and amid the Great Depression, his family relocated from South Dakota to the Liscomb area in pursuit of greater agricultural opportunity. Don went on to build his life in Marshall County, graduating from Liscomb school in 1951, and farmed with his mother and brothers until establishing his own operation upon returning from the service. He was joined in marriage to neighbor and family friend Helen Smith in January 1957. To this union, three children were born, and later six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Don made his living farming, raising corn, soybeans, cattle and hogs. He officially retired from farming just a few years ago. Unofficially, he farmed until his final days, snoopervizing from the pick-up. In ‘retirement,’ you could find him on a parts run, shuttling the crew from field to field or watching from the truck as his son and grandchildren continue the farming operation.
Don was a servant all his life, serving his family, community, church and country. Over the years, he served as a 4-H leader, Sunday school teacher, church elder, school board member, SHRA board member, and more recently a member of the Mission Mowers, a mowing ministry around Liscomb. Don proudly served our country from 1954-1956 in the Army, stationed in Germany.
Don shared his life with his wife of 66 years, Helen, three children, Kevin (Marie) Fiscus, Julie (Brian) Weidenthaler, and Scott (Andrea) Fiscus. Grandchildren: Cameron (Kelly) Weidenthaler, Cooper Weidenthaler, Elise, English, Steele and Gage Fiscus. Great grandchildren: Levi and Layla Weidenthaler. Siblings: Kenneth Fiscus, Wayne (Jan) Fiscus and JoAnn (Wes) Bolt, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Don will join in heaven: both parents, mother and father-in-law, siblings Willis (Jane) Fiscus, Ardeth Hunt, Anne Marie Fiscus, great niece Jill Fiscus and many dear friends.
