Daniel Vinton

Daniel Vinton, 75, of Eldora, passed away Aug. 7, 2025, at the Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Cremation rites have been accorded. Abel’s Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements. Dan will be buried next to his parents at East Lawn Cemetery in Eldora. A Celebration of Life Open House for family and friends will take place Saturday, Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pine Lake Lodge in Eldora.

Daniel D Vinton, born Sept. 22, 1949, in Eldora, to Dorwin Rachel McKenzie Vinton and Leland “Buster” Vinton. He graduated from Eldora High School in 1967. Dan attended in 1969, his Freshman year at Ellsworth Community College before soon becoming a member of the Army National Reserve. Years later Dan returned to his hometown of Eldora, working many years at the Iowa State Training School as a Youth Service Worker.

Dan was united in marriage to Corliss A Smith, of Eldora, April 5, 1980, bringing into the world son Brett Daniel (1981) and daughter Tori Lynn (1985). He made many wonderful memories as an avid Ragbri rider and active hunter and outdoorsman.

Dan suffered a stroke in November of 2020, while residing in Tama, soon becoming a resident of the Sunny Hill Care Center. Dan lived out his remaining years at the Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama, until his passing on August 7, 2025.

Dan is survived by his brother; David (Marlys) Vinton of Indianola, Richard (Lisa) Vinton, of Grundy Center, sister; Carol Hollis of Brinktown, Missouri, children; Tori (Tyler) Haskin, of West Des Moines, Brett Vinton of West Des Moines, granddaughters; Sawyer, Elsie and Livie Haskin of West Des Moines. He is preceded in death by his parents Leland “Buster” Frederick Vinton and Dorwin Rachel McKenzie Vinton.
