Tiger softball falls in eight

 

   WOODWARD- The season ended with a heart-breaking loss for the South Hardin softball team here Monday during the opening night of post-season play.

   Woodward-Granger celebrated a walk-off win over the Tigers, 4-3 in eight innings as the two teams battled in a Class 2A, Region 8 first-round contest.

   The Hawks’ Alissa Smeltzer delivered the game-winner, a two-out double to the leftfield fence to score Katelyn Bandstra in the first extra inning.

   Knotted two-all after the regulation seven, Faith Owens opened South Hardin’s eighth with a double to right-centerfield, took third on a Shelby May’s bouncer to second and raced home on Emma Salvo’s ground-out.
