Nelson earns state berth

WATERLOO- Senior Danae Nelson of the South Hardin girls’ tennis team qualified for the state tournament during a Class 1A regional individual meet at Byrnes Park here Wednesday.

Nelson ended the regional’s runner-up in singles and earned the first state meet berth for the South Hardin girls since 2008.

Nelson, the top-seed in singles, defeated Blanca Canizares of Iowa Falls-Alden to secure the state berth as the top two placewinners advance. She was then beaten 6-0, 6-3 by Anna Sinnott of Waterloo Columbus in the championship match.
