The candidate forum

The candidates met in Iowa Falls last week and on some big issues the divisions were less about Republicans and Democrats than about the county seat and state capitol.

Nowhere was it better illustrated than on the question of hogs.

Candidates for state level and county offices both showed up Wednesday evening for a forum on the Ellsworth Community College campus.

About 30 audience members were in attendance. It was a quiet session, no fireworks, one characterized by politeness and touching on a wide range of topics. Some matters were obscure enough only political junkies would be familiar, others had been the stuff of day in and day out headlines for a couple of years.

Hogs typified the exchanges. As always, there was a pushpull of praising and lamenting the modern way of farming.
