The best season of the year

According to the DNR this should be the moment to see the peak in autumn color.

The last observation staff made was way back on October 8 for Central Iowa. And in central Iowa there was still quite a bit of green showing at the time, though there are also more colors in evidence.

Sumac, dogwoods, Virginia creeper were bright red. Walnuts, elms, green ash, locust were showing more yellows, but many ash and walnuts were simply losing leaves. Hickory and oak trees were also starting to show more color. Many maples were turning orange and red.
