Ethan Anderson and Ryne Pickering brought the show to town again this year. The first of the sweet corn harvest arrived June 19. It is a decades-long tradition and involves two generations of the Kjormoe family – their sweet corn and the corner of Norby’s Farm and Fleet. Hardin City corn went on sale here and Grundy Center, along with other places in central Iowa. This year’s sweet corn came a little late. Often the first sales are around Independence Day. The salesmen for the Steamboat Rock growers said this year’s crop went into the ground late due to wet and damp spells during spring.

It has become a summer history lesson. A return to things vintage and that means tractors, trucks and harvesters all coming alive out at the Hardin County Farm Museum grounds. For the past several years the taste of yesteryear has run in tandem with Eldora’s Pine Lake Festival, adding to the cuisine and dishing up that history.

Add to all that, the Herald-Ledger’s own Bailey Primus will be signing her latest children’s literature.

The 2022 Threshing and Power show runs Saturday through Sunday, July 30-31.

ELDORA – Kelly Mackie has been practicing massage therapy at Be Beautiful Salon, 1150 Washington St., since February of this year, and wants people to know how relaxing a massage can be.

Originally from Conrad, Mackie has lived in Grundy Center since the mid-1990s and travels to Eldora where she offers Swedish massage to clients on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

“Mostly I do traditional Swedish massage, but I’ll do deep tissue massage on areas that need it,” Mackie said. “I’d guess you’d call it a custom massage.”
