CORALVILLE – No area wrestlers made the medal stand at the IWCOA Girls State Wrestling Tournament held Jan. 21 and 22 at the Xtream Arena in Coralville.
But girls wrestling scored a big victory by the end of Saturday night as, prior to the start of the championship matches, the IGHSAU announced that girls wrestling would be an official sport for girls in Iowa to compete in, starting with the 2022-23 season.
For AGWSR head coach Chad Gerbracht, father to Ali Gerbracht, who was one of the first IWCOA girls state wrestling champions to be crowned in 2019, it was long overdue.
