ELDORA – Dr. Abigail Hemken of McFarland Clinic in Eldora joined other medical professionals across America at noon Friday, June 5, as part of the White Coats for Black Lives movement. Dr. Hemken took a knee in front of the clinic for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the length of time it took for ex-officer Derek Chauvin to kneel on George Floyd’s neck, killing him in Minneapolis on May 25. Floyd was a 46-year-old black man who was arrested for allegedly using a counterfeit bill, and Chauvin restrained him by using his knee on Floyd’s neck, which lead to his death.
