A cornfield south of Eldora at Highway S62 and 260th Street went up in smoke and flames April 29, and approximately 150 acres were burned, according to Thomas Craighton with Hardin County Emergency Management. Highway S62 was closed briefly due to the smoke and ash. The fire started from embers smoldering in the timber, said Second Assistant Mike Rogers with the Eldora Fire Department. Those embers were from a controlled burn performed by the Eldora Fire Department “a couple days before,” said Hardin County Sheriff Dave McDaniel.
