It’s almost calving season, and I’ll never understand why cattle farmers want to start this process in late February and early March. The weather is usually the most brutal this time of year and the cold snaps are nasty. Maybe it’s because there’s no crop ground to be planted under all that snow, and farmers have more time to spend making sure the new calves are healthy. I don’t know. It just seems like June or July would make more sense.
