ELDORA – When Renée McClellan retired from her position as Hardin County Auditor in 2013, Jessica Lara stepped in and took over the job. In 2014, she won a retention election, and then in 2016 she ran unopposed and won her seat again. This year, Lara is on the ballot, running against Republican Jolene Pieters.
Originally a Republican, Lara changed her political affiliation to Independent so she could stay impartial during elections. “It had everything to do with the position,” Lara said. “I didn’t want to influence party agenda.”
