HARDIN COUNTY - The Union-Whitten area and Hardin County Conservation will share in recovery funds that can be used to replace trees lost in a freak and massive storm that swept through this part of Iowa about a year ago.
The “Derecho Community Forestry Grant Program” has awarded funds for 66 projects across 27 Iowa counties. All had sustained heavy damage in a seldom-seen wind event that created havoc across several states in August of 2020. An estimated 2,484 trees will be planted in 19 Iowa counties hardest-hit by the windstorm.
