It’s calving season… one of my favorite times of the year, especially if I end up having to bottle-feed a baby. Those calves become tame - with a name, not a tag number - and belong to me forever. At least it’s been that way so far. That’s how I ended up with my 2-year-old bull named Baby Calf, and my year-old heifer named Gingersnap. They were my bottle babies first and now they know their names and come when called… at least they do to me. They’re somewhat skitzy around others, especially Baby Calf.
