Therapy dog approved at E-NP

The Board of Education for Eldora-New Providence Schools has given its imprimatur to trying out a therapy dog for students.
During the June 10 meeting, the board heard from Dan Hughson about a proposal to use a therapy dog for E-NP.
The implementation would be in place for the 2024/25 academic year.
Unanimous approval was given to trying out the idea for the new school year.
Sharing contracts were renewed for two positions with Hubbard-Radcliffe for school counselor and for Human Resources.

Open House planned for Eldora

An open house is set for resident to learn about Brownfield Assessment with Eldora.
The open house is planned for Wednesday, June 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Eldora Public Library.
During the event, the Eldora community can survey current projects, propose additional revitalization opportunities and engage in future redevelopment ideas.
Brownfields development aims to repurpose underutilized land into safe and productive spaces, elevating the community and bettering the quality of life for residents.
Light food and refreshments will be served.

City considers EMS deal

The Ackley-Eldora EMS merger came up before the Eldora City Council during its June 11 meeting.
After July 1 not renewing the contract under the current form is what is being looked at.
A response from the City of Ackley had rejected Eldora’s proposal.
Council heard about some details of what is being looked at right now in modified form.
A $25,000-per annum subsidy from Ackley is among items council heard.
Financial viability is a key concern.
The service is not going to be a profit maker, but over time, things should continue to look better.

Credit union staff help the community

ELDORA - MEMBERS1st Community Credit Union’s Eldora branch saw action recently as 10,000 meals to feed the hungry were assembled in two sessions during the day.
The meals were to help combat hunger in Eldora as well as Iowa Falls and Traer.
Polly Hupfeld, who is the Manager/Coordinator of Meals of Hope, was on hand for the day as the activity got started.
“I like leaving people happy!” said Hupfield.

UI president's list honorees announced

Over 1,200 undergraduate students at the University of Iowa were named to the president's list for the 2024 spring semester.
Among students named were:
Zoey Duns, of Hubbard
Sydney Truex, of Iowa Falls

The Hardin County Historical Society Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the Hardin County Historical Society will be held on June 29, 2024 at
1:00 p.m. at the Hardin County Historical House/Museum located at 1601 Washington St.
Eldora.
The speaker will be Scott Williams; a social studies teacher at AGWSR. The talk will be about
The Constitution and the Civil War. Included in the talk will be letters from a Civil War Veteran
from Ackley wrote while in the Civil War.
The public is invited to come.
A short business meeting will follow.
