ELDORA - The opening of a new Eldora business is also a homecoming for one area woman.
Gabby Mitchell earned her real estate license seven years ago and has worked for Cedar Falls-based Oakridge Real Estate.
However, with a steady number of clients from Hardin County, Mitchell, a 2012 graduate, saw an opportunity to add to the downtown business community in Eldora by bringing things full circle.
“Oakridge Real Estate has been located in Cedar Falls for decades,” said Mitchell.

New traffic devices received by city

The Iowa LTAP Work Zone Sign Package Program safety devices are through the 2024 Small City Work Zone Sign Package Program. Eldora was among 14 winners from 194 applications that were received. The city received traffic cones, safety vests, sign stands, Road Work Ahead and Be Prepare to Stop signs and more. Funded by the Iowa Department of Transportation, the program is for cities under 10,000. Other winners included Aplington, Casey, Garnavillo, Hedrick, Ionia, Kellerton, Laurel, Le Grand, Mediapolis, Milford, Preston, Schaller and Wellsburg.

Wellsburg Library will honor Smokey the Bear

For the next two months the library will display the artwork of Jenny Bledsoe. Jenny is a Mixed Media artist and has over 50 pieces to view at the library. The pieces she has chosen for the Wellsburg Library are mostly multi-layered and are created using canvas or cardboard to fit a particular frame. Each piece is done using a layering process and each piece is unique. She will be demonstrating her technique at class April 30 at 2 p.m. Call the library to sign up for Jenny’s class. The library is having a Smokey the Bear Challenge in honor of his 80th birthday.

SHPAB wins $23,000 for band instrument

The South Hardin Performing Arts Boosters (SHPAB) is excited to announce that the organization was selected to receive Hardin County Community Endowment Foundation (HCCEF) Community and Arts & Culture grants totaling $23,000 to go toward the purchase of new band instruments for South Hardin High School. Board members Pam Runyon, Melissa Miller, and South Hardin instrumental music director Chance Elton were on hand to accept the awards during the HCCEF ceremony at the Ackley Recreation Center on April 4.

Felony theft charge filed against woman

An Iowa Falls Woman is facing a quarter century behind bars and is being held on a bond of $25,000.
Brandy Jean Ogden, 32, is charged with a Class “B” felony for ongoing criminal conduct and an aggravated misdemeanor of theft - third degree.
Ogden was arrested last week on a bench warrant after an Iowa Falls grocery store contacted law enforcement about a pattern of ongoing theft with the woman allegedly failing to scan all items or using a lesser-priced bar code to trick the scanner.
Store security was able to provide dates and times and transaction amounts.
