Bigamy, ID theft alleged

IOWA FALLS - An area man is accused of identity theft involving a judge to allegedly fake a dissolution of his marriage in order to marry another woman.

Aaron Michael McClanahan, 52, of Iowa Falls, is charged with Class D felony falsifying public documents, two aggravated misdemeanor counts of identity theft, two aggravated misdemeanor counts of forgery, two aggravated misdemeanor counts of fraudulent practice - third degree and a serious misdemeanor count of bigamy.

McClanahan is accused of falsifying documents including using the identity of the Honorable Justice Paul B. Ahlers as well as that of his wife in order to secure a decree of dissolution.

That allowed McClanahan to secure a marriage license with a second woman.

The offenses are dated between Sept. 1, 2022 and the present.

The Eldora Herald is not naming the two women victims in order to protect their privacy.

McClanahan was arrested Jan. 17 according to information from the Hardin County Jail.

Bond was set at $25,000 with court records showing McClanahan posting bond.
