Kathleen Ruth Hackney

Kathleen Ruth Hackney, 86, of Gifford, Iowa went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Eldora, Iowa. Funeral services will be Friday, January 17, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, Iowa with a luncheon following the service. Kathleen will be laid to rest following the luncheon at Sheppard Cemetery in Union, Iowa. With honor, Adams Celebration of Life is serving the family. 

Kathleen was born November 18, 1938, in Eldora, Iowa to Harold and Agnes (Ruhnke) Wehrman. Kathleen was in county school until the 8th grade. She graduated from Eldora High School in 1956, where her dad Harold presented her diploma to her. Kathleen married Gail Hackney at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, Iowa on June 6, 1958. 

She worked at a grocery store, a dentist and nurses aid before marriage. Besides the chicken house where she gathered eggs, she worked at Good Shepherd Preschool for 7 years and Dodger Industries as a file clerk for 7 years. 

Kathleen loved playing the piano, computer games, watching the birds, especially Eagles and cardinals. Church and the Lord have been a big part of her life. She also loved going to watch her grandkids and great grandkids at their concerts and sporting events. Her lifetime highlight was when Gail was confirmed into the Lutheran Church in November 2024. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years; her children Kevin Hackney (fiance Annette VanThournout), Kimberlee Catrenich (Carl) and Kellee Kemp (Bob); 7 grandchildren Andrea Strovers, Alison Wolfs, Nick Catrenich, Nate Catrenich, Jaclyn Morganroth, Bryce Kemp and Brady Kemp; 6 great grandchildren Olivia Hackney, Conner, Maezlyn Wolfs, Makenna Buss, Bella Strovers and Leo Morganroth; one sister Nancy Teske and two brothers David (Joyce) and Paul (Linda). 

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, brother Willard, brother Harold (Bud) and sister Dorthy. Those who are not able to make the service, it will be livestream by the church.
