Eugene Panthen, 90

Eugene Panthen, 90, of Eldora, passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2023 at Eldora Specialty Care in Eldora.

Visitation was set for Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard with burial in the Eldora Cemetery.

Eugene Donald Panthen was born Dec. 3, 1933 in Eldora. He was the youngest of two children born to Fred and Viola (Boeke) Panthen.

 He grew up on the Panthen family farm south of Eldora and attended a country school south of the farm. Much of his youth was spent helping with the farming, raising chickens, pigs, cows and horses. During his spare time as a youth, he loved hunting, fishing and trapping.

 After graduating from school, he began the farming business with his father Fred. He was married and from this union five children were born: Diane Decker, Ruth Berends, Jean Panthen, David Panthen and Rochelle Panthen. Eugene enjoyed the outdoors and especially hunting with his family and friends.

 Eugene resided and passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2023 at the Eldora Specialty Care Center.

 He is survived by his children Ruth Berends, Jean Panthen, David Panthen and Rochelle Panthen; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; along with other family and friends.

 Eugene was preceded by his parents, grandparents, daughter Diane Decker and brother Kenneth Panthen.
