WHITTEN - The fabric of the workday is remarkably similar to two generations ago. Jim Speas still consults, takes advice on the markets and fertilizer rates, then he decides for himself how to approach and manage every new crop.
Now, he’s 92 and finishing yet another season. The harvest is in full swing, and he says it looks like his luck has held. In fact, luck has been with him since the very start, when he says his adoptive mom and dad decided to give him a home. He was only a few weeks old and being cared for in a center in Des Moines.
