IOWA FALLS – Maryln Johnson knows everything there is to know about llamas. She runs Country View Llama Ranch south of Iowa Falls and has been in the business for 34 years.
“I started the first llama program in Iowa,” she said. “Now there are spin-offs of mine.”
Johnson usually has 32 llamas roaming her farm, but currently there are 25. Last week a few were just days away from giving birth to a “cria,” which is Spanish for “baby.” The cria weigh 18 to 20 pounds at birth and three new babies were already recently born and roaming with the herd.
