ELDORA - Although 96-year-old Marcus Lamoreaux wasn’t alive during the Spanish Flu pandemic, he knows what happened when it was finally over.
“I ran across an article in the paper about the end of the Spanish flu virus,” he began. “It was near the end of 1919. I remember I archived that story and it may be at the Historical Society.”
The Spanish flu was caused by the H1N1 influenza A virus and lasted from February 1918 to April 1920. About a third of the world’s population at the time – 500 million people – were infected and 50,000,000 died.
