George Roy Wait

George Roy Wait, 70, of Union, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 7, 2021, with his family by his side. George was born in Greeley, Colo., to Galen and Harriet Kemry Wait, on Oct. 30, 1950. George grew up and went through his grade school years in Routt County, Colorado, in a one-room schoolhouse where his Mother taught. George then moved to Littleton, Colo., and graduated from Sheridan High School in Colorado. After High School, George moved to Iowa and went to Marshalltown Community College where he met the love of his life, Candy Clemens. They were married on Feb. 6, 1971, and were married for 50 years.

George worked at Benson Optical in Marshalltown, Iowa, for 20 years and then he worked for Quality Products, in Eldora, Iowa, where he quickly moved up to Supervisor of Third Shift. George worked at Quality Products for over 25 years before he retired. George loved and doted on his family and his wife. His daughters and grandchildren were the apple of his eye. George was the guy you saw mowing numerous yards in town, plowing driveways and shoveling sidewalks with his hunter orange hat and hunter orange coat, during the winter. George also loved reading, playing his solitaire game and hunting in Iowa and Colorado with his family and friends. George enjoyed playing 16 inch, slow-pitch softball for many years with the Jaycee’s and other softball teams. He also loved coaching little league baseball and basketball for the Union-Whitten Cobras as well as refereeing basketball and umpiring baseball and softball games. George was on the Union Fire Department for 50 years and he was on the Union Area Ambulance for over 25 years. George loved helping people and serving his community.

George was preceded in death by his Father, Galen Wait and his Stepmother, Florence Wait.
