A funeral service will be held at Faith Evangelical Church in Radcliffe at 10:30 a.m. Thursday May 20. Burial will follow in the Radcliffe Cemetery.

Russell Franklin Mossman was born at home, on July 19, 1938, the fifth child of Thomas and Pearl (Sheldon). He grew up on a farm 4 1/2 miles northeast of Hubbard, in the timber along Tipton Creek, which was his father’s childhood home. His first name, Russell, came from the rustling of the leaves and his middle name, Franklin, was after President FDR. Russ attended Dean Country grade school (K-7) and walked to school every day. Childhood memories included: trapping, fishing, ice skating, making sorghum and cave building - all involving his best friend and brother, Orlan. He graduated from Hubbard High School in 1956.

Russ was united in marriage to Joyce Ann Clark on March 7, 1959, at Evergreen EUB Church in Hubbard, Iowa. They had four children: Steven (Annette) Mossman of Van Meter, Jeff (Kim) Mossman of Conrad, David (Melissa) Mossman of Liscomb, and Michelle (Wes) Chaplin of Pella.

Russ loved the Lord and you didn’t have to be around him long to know that. He received the Lord as his Savior at 8 years old at Point Pleasant Church during Bible School. He was an elder, a Sunday School teacher, a Bible leader at the Training School, an Awana Leader, and a member of First Christian Church in Iowa Falls.

Russ had many hobbies and passions. He loved farming. He farmed for 59 years before retiring in 2020. He always enjoyed being the first in the field! He loved his family and enjoyed fishing, boating and helping with all of their projects. He especially liked holidays and getting together with family. Things he enjoyed doing with his family included: making homemade ice cream, lefse, freezing sweet corn, and telling funny-bunny stories. He loved throwing horseshoes and playing card games with friends and relatives. He also liked watching westerns!

Russ was diagnosed with liver cancer in November of 2020, and fought hard after surgery, in various hospitals for 96 days. Russ went to be with Jesus on May 14, 2021, at the Hansen Family Hospital in Iowa Falls, with all of his family singing around him. The family would like to thank Dr. Falaha and the nurses at the Hansen Family Hospital in Iowa Falls, MercyOne in Waterloo, and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, who took such loving care of Russ the many times he was there.

Russell is survived by his wife, his four children and spouses, and his 20 grandchildren: Melissa (Joel) Graber of Canada, Jenna Shaw, Jonathan (Olivia) Mossman, Tanner Mossman, Clarke (Shelby) Mossman of Canada, Drake Mossman of Michigan, Emily (Mitchell) Fast of Minnesota, Nathan (Nicole) Chaplin, Aubri Mossman, Noah Chaplin, Courtney Chaplin, Jacob Mossman, Kaylynn Mossman, Jazmyn Mossman, and Skye Mossman. Russ also had four great-grandchildren: Hazel Graber, Esther Mossman, Micah Graber and Shayden Helfrich.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings: Lawrence (Maxine) Mossman, Mildred (Myles) Miller, Muriel Mossman and Orlan Mossman.

Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church of Iowa Falls or YWAM - Clarke and Shelby Mossman.
