HARDIN COUNTY – The Aug. 10 derecho not only left snapped trees, downed power lines, crushed grain bins and damaged homes, it also left thousand of acres of corn lying in fields.
Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist Angie Rieck-Hinz has been scouting crops in the area daily since the storm. “We’re over a week into this,” she said. “Corn that is still green is still alive, corn that’s brown or yellow is already dead.”
