HARDIN COUNTY – It’s a plan that has Hardin County in mind. Some of this area’s row crop farmers, in Iowa’s Prairie Pothole Region of northern Iowa, have an opportunity through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to receive payments on cropped wetlands if they move to protect flood-prone areas.
The north and west portion of Hardin County are renowned for prairie potholes. In fact, dealing with them is a continuing project for the county board of supervisors which helps managee an extensive drainage system designed to keep the wet areas in check.
