Victor L. Schwarck

Victor L. Schwarck, 97, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of rural Grundy County, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022 at Bickford of Marshalltown under the care of Iowa River Hospice.

Services for Victor took place at the Whitten Community Church on Monday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jim Hartman and Chaplain Harlan Nuss officiating. Visitation was held one-hour prior beginning at 10 a.m. He was laid to rest at Sheller Cemetery in rural Grundy County. Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown was entrusted with the care of Victor and his family. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown or your charity of choice in Victor’s name and flowers are welcome. Victor Lowell Schwarck was born on Feb. 4, 1925 on the family farm in Grundy County to Alonzo and Ada (Smith) Schwarck. He graduated from Whitten High School with the class of 1943. He was united in marriage to Ida Marie “Abbie” Freed until her passing in 1979. On June 5, 1996, he married Mona (Wilson) Moore at the Little Brown Church. They made their home in Union, Iowa and later at Oak Estates in Conrad until her passing December of 2015.

Victor lived in rural Grundy County the majority of his life, including five years in Steamboat Rock. He was a beloved and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a lifelong farmer, dedicated to working the land, growing soybeans, corn and his own blend of popcorn. He also enjoyed raising cattle and watching tractor sales. He was a member of Farm Bureau, the Eldora Bowling League, the Ivester Church of the Brethren and the Whitten Community Church. As a skilled woodworker, Victor loved making handmade gifts for everyone and even made the cross at the front of the Whitten Community Church. In his free time, he enjoyed vegetable gardening, music, polka dancing and playing cards (500 and Pepper) especially at family gatherings.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Vickii (Jerry) Ward, Jan Williams, Garry (Melinda) Schwarck and Joelle Blondel (exchange student from France); grandchildren: Matthew Ward, Michael (Shelley) Ward, Levi (Jill) Schwarck and Abbie (Michael) Schaa; great-grandchildren: Parker, Wesley, Lily, Ethan, Hailey and Jaycee; his brother Paul (Catherine) Schwarck; sisters-in-law: Evelyn Schwarck, Joan Schwarck, Sheri Freed, and many nieces and nephews.

In eternal life, he is reunited with his first wife, Abbie, his parents, Alonzo and Ada, many siblings: Richard, Dale, Milo, Donald, Glen, Carl, Mauri, Lucille, Margaret and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
