Steven Kix
It is impossible to put into a few words on paper what this man meant to his family and friends. His hugs were legendary among all who loved him.
Steven Arthur Kix gained his angel wings on November 10, 2024, surrounded by his family at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Steve was born to Fred and Melba (Engelking) Kix on April 26, 1954. He was the third born of four children. He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard, IA. Steve graduated with the Hubbard Class of 1972 and attended Iowa State University for a year. He married Joyce Lampe, his high school sweetheart, on June 2, 1973, and he surprised Joyce for their 50th anniversary with a vow renewal.
Steve worked the family farm with his father, Fred, brother, John and son, Wes. He drove the Des Moines Register paper route for many years as well. Steve also dabbled in raising Cocker spaniels and St. Bernards for a time. Although he wasn’t able to retire from farming, he did have multiple family members and friends, too many to name, that have helped out on the farm at the drop of a hat. I’m sure many people have fond memories of working beside him, riding with him or just plain being in his company.
Steve was a faithful servant and was active in church through the years including serving on the council. He was a member of the Hubbard telephone board. In Steve’s free time, he enjoyed golfing, traveling, boating, fishing, camping, attending both his children’s and grand-children’s sporting events and other activities and just plain spending time with friends and family.
Steve is survived by the love of his life, Joyce, four children – Jennifer (Chad) Nicholl of Denton, Texas, Wes (Hope) Kix of Hubbard, Iowa, Mike Kix and Tammy Farwell of Waukee, Iowa and Morgan (Tim) Hunter of Des Moines, Iowa. Steve found great joy and insurmountable pride in his 11 grandkids; Jackson Nicholl, Maddy (Caleb) Sledd, Reagan Nicholl, Olivia Kix, Alyssa Kix, Nile Kix, Korie Campbell, Alexis Kix, Dalten Hunter, Dakoda Hunter, and Maddux Hunter and 1 great-grandchild, Taye Simpson (son of Ali and Trent Simpson). Also surviving are brother John (Joy) Kix, Sisters, Kathy (Mark) Muhs and Deb (Kevin) Eilbeck, in- laws including Jim (Koni) Eilders, Doris (Gary) Wheelock, Bruce (Roxane) Lampe along with fifteen nieces and nephews and many “greats”. One last surviving loved one is Rip, his 150+ lb St. Bernard and faithful companion.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Melba Kix, parents in law, Leonard and Gloria Lampe, sister-in-law, Linda Eilders and nephews, Alex Partridge and Christopher Muhs.
As we mourn the loss of Steve, we celebrate his life filled with love, laughter, unforgettable memories and legendary hugs.
