Sally J. Roberts

Sally J. Roberts, 68, of Midland, TX passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Garden City Cemetery. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland, TX.

Sally was born on September 29, 1952 in the rural farming community of Eldora, Iowa to Ruth and Robert Meader. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her two older sisters; Betty and Bobbi; her older brother; Norman “Mick”; and her husband Doss N. Roberts. She is survived by her “Mijo” Sergio R. Ojeda, his wife Lisa M. Ojeda and their children Michaela and Gabriel Ojeda and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews, who live in the Midwest.

Sally spent her childhood growing up in Eldora, where she spent most of her time outdoors hiking and fishing often with her brother Mick. She graduated high school from Eldora-New Providence High School. She then attended undergraduate school at University of Northern Colorado and later received her Master’s degree in Geosciences from the University of Arizona. Sally started her 37-year career as an Exploration Geologist shortly after graduation for Cities Services Oil Company. She then worked for Heco (Harvey Yates) for approximately 5 years where she made several big discoveries before going out on her own as an independent geologist under the name of Sonshine Exploration.

Sally shared many hobbies with Doss including rebuilding and overhauling old planes, flying around geologic sites in Texas and New Mexico, and playing a lot of golf. They often traveled in their RV to South Texas and Arizona for the winter to enjoy these hobbies. Sally also spent much of her time in the midst of her busy career volunteering for many geologic societies. She had a very special place in her heart for mentoring the next generation of geologists. She was a very active and beloved member at both Mid Cities Community Church and Community Fellowship Church. Sally will be best remembered for her love and passion of her savior Jesus Christ and her energetic, “spunky” spirit.
