Randall Monroe
Randall Eugene Monroe, born April 20, 1962, known affectionately as Randy, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born to Eugene and Margaret (Trout) Monroe on April 20, 1962, in Eldora, Iowa, Randy grew up with a strong work ethic and a passion for helping others. Randy completed his education by earning his GED in Eldora.
He first married Lisa Bockenstedt (Risius), with whom he had three children (Nathan, Nicholas and Melisa) and later divorced. Thereafter, he married Beth Monroe (Kinsinger), and together they welcomed two daughters (Taylor and Lily) before divorcing after 29 years of marriage.
Randy was a skilled carpenter and craftsman, particularly in welding, which is where he spent the majority of his career. He was known for being a handyman for his community and family. He did not know the word “rest”- he was very active and always busy doing something or helping someone.
He spent his free time fishing with friends and family, traveling to where the fish were biting. If he wasn’t on the water, he would spend his time with his family, supporting them however he could. In recent years, Randy enjoyed his time with Loretta Scott-Jugan, his significant other.
Randy's memory will be cherished by his children: Nathan (Heather) Monroe of Hubbard, Nicholas (Kacie) Monroe of Marshalltown, Melisa (Drew) Anderson of Marshalltown, Taylor Monroe of Ames, and Lily Monroe of Ames. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Hayden, Breccan, Aerilyn, Hallie, Harrison, Andrew, and Daniel; and his siblings: Terry Monroe (Lee Jackson) of Eldora, Debra Tamminga of Unionville, MO, Cindy Monroe of Eldora, and his significant other, Loretta Scott-Jugan.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Margaret Monroe, and his sister, Gloria Van Deest.
