Mary was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on Nov. 2, 1951, to her parents Jerry and Catherine (Truby) Bartlett. She was raised in Dubuque and graduated from Senior High School in the class of 1969 in Dubuque. After high school, Mary went on to study to become a dental hygienist, she met James Weaver at softball and they enjoyed doing both golf and bowling league together. Mary worked at various jobs, had lots of adventures, and moved around throughout Iowa before she eventually settled in Eldora, Iowa, and was married to James in April of 1988. Together they welcomed their daughter Catherine “Cat” and their son John into their family. The couple later divorced but remained life-long friends.

Mary was a long-time member of the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church. There she served the church as an AWANA leader and later a youth group leader as her kids grew up. She was a member of the Progress Club and led adult women’s Bible study program. She liked to crochet and would make baby blankets for anyone she knew that was expecting. Mary loved daily road trips and especially shopping trips with her three roommates from college all of whom remained life-long friends. More recently, she was very proud of going back to college at age 60 and graduating from Ellsworth Community College in 2013, after which the college hired her on to become the school’s financial manager. Here she met so many coaches, students, and co-workers that became very dear to her. However, Mary’s true joy in life came from spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was very active in all of her children’s activities and later her grandchildren’s as well.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Cat (Ben) Potter, of Hudson, Iowa; and John (Heather) Weaver of Hudson, Iowa; grandchildren Evelyn Potter, Eleanor Potter and one on the way, Jerry Weaver and Melanie Weaver. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband James Weaver; and brother Jerry Bartlett.
