Martha (Marcie) L. Baillie
Martha (Marcie) L. Baillie, 76, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at the Steamboat Rock Presbyterian Church on December 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM with visitation at the church starting one hour before the service. The service will be streamed on the church’s Facebook page for those who are ill or cannot travel to the services. With honor, Adams Celebration of Life is serving the family.
Martha (Marcie) Louise Woody Baillie was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 27, 1948, to parents Dillon and Margaret Woody.
While finishing Eighth Grade, Marcie went to live with her beloved brother Chuck, and his wife, Pat, in Rochester, New York and in Boston, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Dana Hall High School in Wellsley, Massachusetts in 1966. She went on to Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa and graduated in 1970 with a B.A. and Iowa Teaching Certifications in Spanish and English.
It was through Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship at Grinnell College that Marcie gave her heart to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was baptized in Rock Creek Lake.
After graduation from Grinnell College, Marcie went to Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California to study the Bible. She graduated in 1972 with a master’s degree, but more importantly, while taking classes met the love of her life Bruce Baillie. She was studying Greek, and he was studying Hebrew! Together, Marcie and Bruce worked with the Young Adult Ministry at Glendale Presbyterian Church.
In the Autumn of 1975, Marcie, Bruce, and six months old Becky were called to love and serve the Presbyterian Church in beautiful Steamboat Rock, Iowa. Michael, Stephen, and Katie were welcomed to their family. Loving her family and the Church, Marcie actively supported Bruce, the Church, the Presbytery, the Presbyterian Village and the surrounding area for many years.
Marcie enjoyed working in many different roles over the years: at the Steamboat Rock School, Ellsworth Community College, the Steamboat Rock Post Office, a brief fun stint with Ackley Veterinary Services, and most especially with AMR Ambulance, the Hardin County EMS Council, and the Steamboat Rock Fire Department.
Marcie greatly treasured family! She absolutely loved being both part of the family of God and the Baillie Clan. She would often tell her co-workers and friends that Bruce and the kids (and now grandkids!), and all their Golden Retrievers and cats are the best thing that ever happened to her!
Marcie liked to start each day with prayer asking God to help her be a blessing to someone that day. She loved to smile and tell the kids and grandkids to “Remember to keep God’s love and light shining strong in your life each day! ”
Marcie Baillie, longtime fan of Hershey with Almonds, watching and enjoying the songbirds, and Snoopy, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 1, 2024.
She is preceded by parents Dillon and Margaret Woody, brother Dr. Charles (Chuck) D. Woody, and her son Michael Baillie. She is survived by her husband, Bruce, her children: Becky, Stephen and Katie, and her grandchildren: Joseph, Hannah, Jonathon, Remington, Keegan and Evelyn.
In lieu of flowers she has asked that Memorials be made to the Steamboat Rock Fire and Rescue Department, the Animal Rescue League of Des Moines or the First Presbyterian Church of Steamboat Rock.
