Marjorie Rieks, age 84, formerly of Hubbard, IA, died on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at The Health Center of Ramsey Village in Des Moines, IA. A Private Family Graveside will be held on Friday afternoon, December 11th at the Hubbard Cemetery in Hubbard. Marjorie Ann (Uhlken) Rieks was born September 9, 1936, in Dike, Iowa. She was the second child born to Alfred and Viola Uhlken.

Marge received her education in Steamboat Rock, Iowa graduating in 1954. She attended Parson’s Teachers College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. She went to teach elementary grade school in Kellogg, Grundy Center and Eldora, Iowa.

On June 28, 1958, Marge was united in marriage to Herbert Rieks, Jr. at the Zion United Church in Hubbard, Iowa. Marge and Junior spent most of their married life on a farm north of Hubbard where they raised three daughters, Lori Jansen (Jeff) of Urbandale, Iowa, Cathy Davis of West Des Moines, Iowa and Diane Klemme (Kevin) of Bondurant, Iowa. Junior farmed and Marge was primarily a homemaker but also served as a substitute teacher as her daughters grew older, worked at Bateman’s Market in Hubbard and cleaned houses in Ames.

Marge enjoyed tending to a large garden, freezing sweet corn and making strawberry preserves. She served as room mother many years for her daughters’ classroom and served in several capacities at Zion. She also sewed and made some beautiful craft projects sold at holiday craft fairs with her daughters.

Following Junior’s death in 1998, she remained on the farm until she moved to Newton, Iowa in 2008 to be near her sister Marilyn.

Marge passed away Wednesday morning December 9, 2020 at Ramsey Village in Des Moines, Iowa.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters; sons-in-law; grandchildren Nicole Jansen, Dayna (Jansen) Finley, Adam and Megan Davis, Tyler and Joshua Klemme; great-granddaughter Payton Finley; along with many other relatives and friends.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Junior and her sister Marilyn Lawler Goodwin.
