John David Maze, 85

Steamboat Rock, Iowa, resident John David Maze, 85, passed away July 25, 2020, at the Hansen Family Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Per John’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. At the family’s request, no services will be held at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice. Mr. Maze was born on Dec. 6, 1934, in Carroll, Iowa, to George Edward and Gladys (Meeker) Maze; he was one of eight boys.

John shared his childhood with his family of seven brothers on their farm at Carroll. He graduated from Carroll Public High School and served four years in the United States Air Force. With an honorable discharge, he returned home to Carroll, Iowa. He was a hard-working employee for the City Parks Administration for many years. He retired to Steamboat Rock to help his mother as well as many neighbors with their lawn care, gardening and snow removal, never accepting anything more than a thank-you or perhaps a cookie. John was a practical, quiet, hark working fellow who will be and is greatly missed.

John is survived by his brothers and their families, George of Webster City, Ted of Maquoketa, Donald of Marshalltown, Glenn of Coralville, and Richard of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: James and Edward.
