Hoffman crushes supervisor challenge
Incumbent B.J. Hoffman has survived a challenged by Lisa Lawler for his seat on the Hardin County Board of Supervisors.
Hoffman appears to have secured 3,492 votes against Lawler’s 1,633 votes.
Results for Hardin County were not reported to the Iowa Secretary of State until 1:40 a.m., nearly the last county in the state to do so.
Voter turnout was lighter than much of the state with 47.73 percent of the county’s 11,499 registered voters casting a ballot for 5,488 votes total.
For State Representative District 54, Joshua Meggers looks to have secured a healthy win with 11,330 votes to just 176 write-in votes out of 11,506 total.
The Hawkeye State as a whole leaned heavily Republican for Election 2024, a fact that had Iowa GOP members celebrating.
“And I think one clear message from this election - and we heard this all across the state - why in the world is a party running on one issue - and that one issue is killing babies up until the day of birth? And I think Iowans rejected that wholeheartedly tonight,” said Speaker Pat Grassley in a statement Tuesday evening.
For Iowa, Donald Trump won the state with 899,659 votes against Kamala Harris with 676,319 as Iowa voter turnout was 71.52 percent.
