Eldora seeking new police chief after Schrad resignation

One week after he was placed on administrative leave, Eldora Police Chief Anthony Schrad officially told the city he was quitting, leaving Eldora to pursue a new head for its police force.

Announcement of Schrad’s resignation was made public Friday.

“Eldora Chief of Police, Anthony Schrad resigned as Eldora Police Chief effective October 30, 2022,” said a statement sent by City Administrator Aaron Budweg. “The City of Eldora will commence its search for a new Chief of Police.”

Eldora Police Captain Nick Hassebrock is overseeing law enforcement coverage for the City of Eldora.

A two-sentence notice that Eldora’s Chief of Police Anthony Schrad had been placed on leave was had been issued the week before with city officials declining to go into the reason for Schrod being placed on leave.

“Pursuant to Iowa Code, this is a confidential personnel matter, and we cannot comment further,” said City Administrator Aaron Budweg in announcing Schrad being placed on leave.

The city’s police department has five full-time officers and five part-time officers.
