Dennis Richard Mairs

Dennis “Denny” Richard Mairs, 78, of Eldora, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2024, at his home. Visitation will be Friday, October 18, 2024, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ from 5-7 pm in Eldora. A funeral service will be Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 11 am at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora. A luncheon will follow the service. The family will hold a private family burial.  With honor, Adams Celebration of Life is serving the family.

Denny was born on March 20, 1946, in Eldora, Iowa to Robert and Darlene (Pearce) Mairs. He graduated from Eldora High School.  After high school Denny worked several different jobs before entering the Iowa National Guard. He worked for Dayco Products, US Manufacturing and Midwest Liquids before retirement. 

He was united in marriage to Linda Meeker. To this union their daughter Kelly was born. They later divorced. Denny then married the love of his life Lois Haupt on October 7, 1989. Their daughter Alana made this family complete. 

In Denny’s early years he enjoyed both slow and fast pitch softball. He was also a previous member of the Eldora Fire Department, Pine Lake Country Club and Iowa National Guard. Currently Denny was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and the American Legion in Eldora.  Some of the things that brought him the most joy were his family, pets, camping, Iowa State Cyclones, Green Bay Packers, New York Yankees and Tootsie Roll suckers. 

Those left to cherish Denny’s memory are his wife Lois of 35 years; daughters Kelly (Matt) Fleury of Belvidere, IL, Alana (Arthur) Klein of Waterloo, IA; Grandchildren Emily and Zachary Fleury, Cannon Klein; Sister Barb (Leon) Herndon of Eldora, IA; Brothers Rob (Kay) Mairs of Ashton, IL and Tom (Nan) Mairs of Sun City, AZ. 

Denny is preceded in death by his parents, stepdad Dale May, sister and brother-in- law Don & MaryEllen Gibbs.
