April 1, 1928, M. Corinne Haywood entered the world in Granger, IA joining the family of Harry and Winnetta (Herrold) Haywood. Frieda and Laverne were her older siblings, and the family later expanded with Charles, Arvin, and George. In 1938, they moved to rural Union. Corinne graduated from the Union Class of 1945. After high school, Corinne attended Iowa Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls and became a teacher at Clemon’s Elementary.

Corinne married the love of her life, Dale Martin, on December 26th, 1946.

Corinne and Dale welcomed four children into their family, Sidney, Edward, Jonathon, and Marilea. They spent their life together on the farm. They were married for 72 years earthside and she was ready to join Dale and her sons, Ed, and Jon, in the afterlife.

If you have ever talked to Corinne, you know how proud she was about her family, with her eyes lighting up and her smile getting bigger with each word she spoke about them. Each child, grandchild, great-grandchild, and great-great-grandchild held a special place in her heart, including those welcomed into the family by marriage. She and Dale traveled extensively to never miss an event for their grandchildren, often driving and returning home on the same day. Corinne’s grandchildren rave about her hospitality and overnight slumber parties, often involving multiple grandkids at the house, eating her monster cookies and ham balls. Even as grown adults, a grandchild never left her house without their stomachs full and leftovers to go home. This was a love language of Grandma’s and she had a lot of love to give.

Corinne’s activities in life included a joy for gardening, especially strawberries and asparagus, flowers in her yard with a special fondness for hollyhocks, and sewing. She enjoyed Red Hat Ladies, Dutch’s Dollies (for Ronald Reagan), the YMCA water aerobics (even though she couldn’t swim!), 4-H and Cub Scout Leader, American Legion Auxiliary and helping with the annual Community Church Bazaar.

But her favorite holidays include Thanksgiving because she could cook for her family. Christmas was a close second because she learned from the best- Grandma and Grandpa Haywood- for amazing Christmas gatherings.

Corinne is survived by son Sidney and Barbara Martin of Green Forks, Indiana; daughter Marilea Mullen of Corning, IA; daughters-in-law Diane Martin and Deb Martin. Grandchildren/Greats/G-Greats: Brian Martin (Lucy, Emma, Austin, Adam, Keira), Renae & Shane Schafer (Gabe & Michelle with Winnie, Chloe & Parker with Hazel, Amelia), Natalie and Mike McCoy (Eli and Emily Avery), Andrew & Jenny Martin (Jackson & Karis), Angela & Justin Spooner (Kate, John & Luke), Abigail Martin, Ryan & Stacy Martin (Logan, Miles, & Nolan), Nathan & Leah Martin (Hadley, Everett & Abram), Marissa & Joe Woodske (Gunnar, Grace & Finn), Kyle & Brittany Mullen, Jason Mullen & partner Nikia (Emmett & Freya), Greg Mullen, Tessa Mullen (Merrick).

Dale and Corinne taught us all what being a family means and it shows through every one of us today. Her unwavering support and confidence she instilled in all of us remains a driving force in each of our lives. We are who we are because of them.
