Anne Hodina
Anne Hodina, 74, passed away Oct. 19, 2021, in the exact way she had wanted: she fell asleep with her son and daughter holding her hands while sharing stories and laughing. Visitation was held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Anne was born March 18, 1947, in Eldora, Iowa. After attending Ellsworth Junior College, she moved to Des Moines with her two friends, Val and Jiggs whom she remained best friends with for over 60 years. In 2016, Anne retired as a front desk receptionist at Children and Families of Iowa. She dreamed of working behind-the-scenes in Hollywood and loved movies, music, and books, almost as much as she loved her family and friends. 2022 would have marked her 50th year as a proud member of the Kappa Chi chapter of the Phi Tau Omega Philanthropic Sorority. Many thanks to Vicki Eft for her friendship and help in caring for Mom the last few years.
Preceded in death by her parents and sister; Anne will be greatly missed by her son, Shadley Grei, and daughter, Julie Gonzalez, both of Des Moines; son-in-law, Jim Gonzalez; grandchildren, Marissa, Kailee, Dallas, and Diego; her Kappa Chi and Phi Tau Omega sisters, extended family, and countless friends.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for distribution to Anne’s favorite charities.
