DES MOINES- The goal was a state championship and the lofty expectation was achieved by junior Brylie Zeisneiss of the South Hardin girls’ track & field team during day one of the Iowa High School Championships at Drake Stadium here Thursday.

Zeisneiss was crowned the Class 2A shot put champion with a throw of 45-feet 1-inch. The winning toss came on her third throw in the prelims. She also had three measurements of 44-plus feet.

The South Hardin junior had placed sixth in the field event as a freshman and fourth as a junior.

The AGWSR girls also celebrated Thursday with a runner-up placing in the Class 1A 4x800 relay. The foursome of seniors Mandy Willems and Haley Bakker along with junior Aubrie Fisher and sophomore Ali Gerbracht were clocked in 10:06.82.

Fisher also finished fifth in the 3000 meter run Thursday morning, circling the track seven and one-half times in 11:00.25.
